Mobile vegetable vending vehicles to operate across all wards in Coimbatore Corporation to aid public during pandemic lockdown

Coimbatore: Due to the complete lockdown that has been imposed across Tamil Nadu, the public have been severely inconvenienced by being unable to procure vegetables and essentials. To aid wholesale outlets, agri-sales and agri-businesses, the Ministry for Food and the Ministry for Forests launched a program on May 25 to provide free vehicles and home-grown vegetable packages to the Corporation and the Horticulture Department. These products will reach the public in all 100 wards of the Corporation through mobile vegetable vending vehicles.

In addition, about 920 vehicles have been issued licenses by the Corporation for the use of retailers in the above business. Officers for each Ward and Coordinating Officer for the Zone have been appointed to monitor the proper functioning of the above functions.

Public can also lodge their grievances immediately with concerned Ward Officers and Zonal Coordinating Officers through their mobile numbers if the Coimbatore Corporation's vehicles do not turn up or sell vegetables at high prices.

The Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, P Kumaravel Pandian said that arrangements have been made to distribute groceries directly to residences through the supermarket under the Coimbatore Corporation Zonal Offices.
