AIADMK MLAs propose ways to control spike in Covid-19 cases in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: AIADMK MLAs have proposed various ways to curb the spike of Covid-19 cases in Coimbatore. In a letter to the District Collector, they said that the second wave of Covid-19 in Coimbatore district has spread rapidly and caused high casualties.
"The spread of Covid-19 infection is particularly severe in Coimbatore district which is only next to Chennai. This has resulted in deaths, inadequate treatment facilities for patients and lack of oxygen bed facilities in Government and private hospitals. Ventilator bed facility shortage, lack of oxygen, inadequate immunization are some of the problems plaguing the people of Coimbatore district and the medical department has been facing undue hardships in spite of the measures taken by the Government. Therefore, the Government and private hospitals, wedding halls and colleges should be equipped with additional oxygen bed facilities," stated the AIADMK members.
"Details of the beds, especially the oxygen beds which are published in the newspapers by the Coimbatore district administration are inaccurate. Although they have contacted the Control Center set up by the Government, people are being informed that there is no bed facility and that information will be provided as soon as beds are available. But the media is reporting that there are no bed facilities available. Hence, patients and their kin panic. Accurate information regarding oxygen bed facilities must be reported by the media. According to the district administration, patients are now being treated for black fungal infections in Coimbatore. Hence, throughout Coimbatore district, the Government should take immediate and serious action to provide adequate treatment to those affected by the black fungus and control the spread of the black fungus infection by creating awareness among the general public as to the mode of its spread," requested the AIADMK cadres.
They further added that vegetables, fruits and essential commodities should be made available in the public areas of Coimbatore district. "Steps must be taken to make it available through vehicles. Covid vaccines have thus far been administered in all Government hospitals and in Government primary health care centers throughout the district for public use. This will prevent people from overcrowding while queuing up for their vaccines. Currently, the Government has announced and implemented vaccination drives at only 10 vaccination centers across the Coimbatore district. This has resulted in long queues of 1000 people in 10 centers," added the cadres.
They pointed out that vaccines were easily available to only a few private companies. "At the same time, vaccines are not available to the general public. The district administration should inform the Health Department officials to rectify the irregularities. Coimbatore district has a population of about 37 lakh people. About 20 lakh people live in urban areas in particular. Hence, there is a need for more vaccination centers which can curb the spread of infection. For those who have received their first dose of the vaccine suffer due to unavailability of the second dose of the same vaccine, at regular intervals. On behalf of the Coimbatore District AIADMK and Coalition Party legislators, we call on the Government to take action on a war-footing to prevent the spread of this pandemic and vaccinate people as much as possible in the areas where they live," they reiterated.
