People panic as leopard movement increases in Valparai
Coimbatore: With wildlife movement increasing in residential areas in and around Valparai, leopards have been spotted by residents who are now in a state of panic since these leopards are hunting and eating their pet dogs, cats, poultry and goats.
Ever since the Tamil Nadu Government imposed a complete curfew due to Covid-19 spike, most areas in Valparai wear a deserted look without any movement of people.
Thus wildlife movement has increased and a CCTV camera mounted on a house inNagaikadai Street's residential area recorded a leopard roaming the area near the Valparai Post Office, every night.
The CCTV footage shows the leopard killing a dog in front of the house at night and dragging it out of the house onto the main road. The footage has gone viral on social media. Residents in the area have demanded that the Forest Department ought to capture the leopard using a cage, at the earliest to prevent any casualty.
