District Collector Nagarajan reassures public that there are signs of decline in Covid-19 cases in Coimbatore


Coimbatore: Coimbatore District Collector S Nagarajan while addressing the media said that about 12 to 15 Coronavirus Treatment Centers were already operational in Coimbatore district with 3,100 beds.

A handful of Coronavirus Treatment Centers in rural areas across the respective village panchayats have started functioning from Thursday. In addition, Coronavirus Treatment Centers are also being set up in Coimbatore with private entities coming forward to contribute generously.

The District Collector also hoped that the complete curfew will help reduce the spread of the Covid-19 infection. He said that the estimated time for reduction in cases was two and a half weeks and the full effect of the curfew was expected to be seen in the next few days.

"The spread of Covid-19 can be prevented if the public followed compulsory wearing of face masks, social distancing and the observance of the complete lockdown. When the spread of the disease from one person to another would be limited to just one, then disease would be under control. Around 700 areas across the district have been declared as containment zones and at the same time, arrangements have been made to provide essential vegetables to the public so that they are not affected. Oxygen availability in all Government hospitals in Coimbatore district without shortage and also in the private hospitals several contributions are being made for stable availability.

In the intermediate hospitals, oxygen is being provided in rations to 20 hospitals with 100-bed facilities, which is receiving one kilolitre a day for patients. Shortages are being arranged by the District Control Room for private hospitals and not only Coimbatore district but the whole of Tamil Nadu is getting enough oxygen support. 2000 doctors and 7000 nurses are being recruited to treat Covid patients," elaborated the District Collector.
