Elephant herd chase vehicle carrying essentials on Coonoor-Mettupalayam ghat road
Coimbatore:A herd of wild elephants gorging on jackfruit on the deserted Coonoor-Mettupalayam road in Nilgiris District aggressively chased a vehicle passing by since their calves were around them.
The complete lockdown imposed across Tamil Nadu due to Coronavirus infections has resulted in very less traffic on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam road in Nilgiris district. Wild elephants with two calves near Marapalam aggressively charged onto a vehicle carrying vegetables and other essentials.

Motorists in the vehicle panicked when they saw their vehicle being chased by the herd of wild elephants. Thereafter, the herd moved back together into the forest. The Forest Department has urged tribals in the area to be cautious since wild elephants are camping on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam ghat section due to the lush jackfruit season in the area.
