Railway Suppliers Association request re-fixing delivery date for the supplies affected by COVID-19
Coimbatore: Due to the Second wave of pandemic spread, all the Southern states and several other states have imposed lockdown since the last April month. In states like Tamilnadu, the Industries producing essential commodities are allowed to run. But the Railway products are not included in the list of essential items.
In a press release they said, "Due to lockdown, the supply chain is disrupted and we are unable to complete the production. Even if the products are ready, RITES inspection officials are unable to clear the goods and the supply is withheld. The transporters are unable to transit with normal speed and hence delayed delivery is caused. We usually apply for re-fixing the delivery date without penalty. But the store's officials extended the delivery date, with a penalty only. They are reluctant to re- fix, as there is no notification from the Railway Board. The Micro and Small sector industries are already suffering due to damages caused by raw material price hike and deferral of last year orders."
They requested the Railway Minister and Railway Board to intervene and arrange to issue a notification to guide stores officials to re-fix the delivery date without penalty, in respect of all the purchase orders affected due to recent sporadic lockdowns. Also they said, during last year COVID 19 breakout, the Railway stores officials arbitrarily cancelled, deferred or reduced the quantity of our purchase orders.
Hence they requested the Railway Board to allow the suppliers to voluntarily withdraw from supplying their purchase orders, due to pandemic spread and asked the Railway Board to return their security deposits, without penalty.
