Coimbatore: In an emotional and eloquent video recording in the wake of the recent electoral debacle, Makkal Needhi Mariam President, Kamal Haasan released a video recording as a statement to the people of Tamil Nadu saying, “As long as I have my life, I will be in politics. As long as I am in politics, there will be a Makkal Needhi Maiam.”

In all the constituencies contested in the recently concluded Assembly elections, all the MNM candidates including Kamal Haasan lost. Following this debacle, top MNM functionaries resigned, which included the party's General Secretary and Deputy leader.

As a response to the spate of resignations in MNM, Kamal Haasan released a heartfelt statement to the Tamil Nadu people through a video recording. "Uyire ... Urave ... Tamil. We should not allow ourselves to be swayed but must explore failure and learn the lesson of success in it. To some it seems dictatorial that we thought of electrifying history for people who knew past history as well as those who were little acquainted with it, and to shine as the stars of the new rising politics. It would have been the culmination of democracy to have found the way to grow within a few days of joining the party with great responsibilities in terms of merit.

Some have disappeared into oblivion in the context of time owing to their own short-sightedness. Everyone knew the transparency that we showed in forming the coalition and the democracy that we showed in giving them the responsibility to choose it. It is good democracy for each one to accept his moral obligation after failure. Some look for a pit to shed the mistakes that they have made, forgetting the action that has to follow as duties that constitute good democracy. IThose who have come to drink to satisfy their contemporary thirst do not understand that our main well has been there for 40 years with fresh water flowing in it and although the body is a little tired, it has been invigorated. This is the lesson of our recent experience.

This is our land, and this is the ‘agriculture’ that we will engage in. Nomads, pilgrims and others will not stay in one place. As long as they are merchants they will only stay as long as they have business. Then they will leave. Those who left will even return and this fountain will continue to be exploited but we must continue our work honestly with the determination not to let the well be polluted again. That is, we do not need to respond to accusations because the world knows the message we are sending out and that others are hiding their mistakes. Time will tell.

Are you asking us who know the truth to stay mum? A request to the volunteers who are shouting loudly ... Speak the truth, argue the relationship, our mother Tamil alone is enough for that. The games played by those who have changed the high structure of the party for their own benefit will no longer continue. People will see the new transformed Makkal Needhi Maiam where activists will strengthen their arms. In our politics, clarity and honesty will pave the the way for our journey. I will be in politics as long as I live. As long as there is politics, there will be Makkal Needhi Maiam and so will I,” declared an emotional Kamal Haasan in the released video.
