6 peacocks die mysteriously near Pollachi; Forest Dept. investigating to ascertain if they were poisoned
Coimbatore: The Forest Department received information that one peacock and four peahens in Velusamy's farm and one peahen in Sivakumar's farm in Nagerkalandai, Sencherimalai, next to Anaimalai near Pollachi were found dead in mysterious circumstances.
Following this, the Pollachi Forest Department officials went to the spot and seized the carcasses. The Forest Department has ordered veterinarians to perform an autopsy on the order of Anaimalai Tiger Deputy Director, Arokkiyaraj Xavier on the suspicion that the peacocks may have been poisoned.
Forest officials said departmental action would be taken under the Forest Conservation Act against the farm owners once the investigation is completed and it was found that they were involved in poisoning the peacocks.
