Coimbatore: A resolution was passed at a welfare meeting of the Construction and Unorganised Workers Welfare Association to make labor registration notice mandatory in 17 welfare centers in Tamil Nadu.
This meeting was held at the SMS office in Singanallur on behalf of the Federation of Construction and Unorganised Workers Unions operating in the Coimbatore district.
The meeting was headed by LPF General Secretary Krishnaswamy. The meeting congratulated Stalin on taking charge as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
During the meeting, resolutions were taken including the following " Currently, there are 1.30 crore people who have not registered and 50 lakh people who have missed the registration with the Welfare Board.
The government has not paid attention to the renewal of those who have registered with the welfare boards for the last 10 years.
In the 17 Labor Welfare Boards, more than 70 lakh people have registered but only about 25 lakh people have updated. Therefore, registration should be made mandatory by declaring that all workers working in the construction and unorganised industries must be registered with the Welfare Boards.
In view of the spread of Covid-19 infection, a special order should be issued to extend the period of renewaltill March 31st 2022considering the delay. Rejection of petitions filed online must be stopped.
The government has not implemented the order issued on 28.02.2011 which cancels the conditions that workers who are over 60 have registered with the welfare board are eligible for pension has not been initiated for the last 10 years. An order should be made to pay pensions to workers who are still alive.
Welfare Board registration and renewal work has been done online via computer since 10.06.2020 due to Covid-19. Aadhar card is made mandatory for this. People who don't have Aadhaar linked to their phone numbers or any of the other 11 documentations face trouble during renewal.
Biometric fingerprint registration should be implemented instead of Aadhaar phone number verification, so biometric registration should be implemented. The online registration should be designed so that registration and renewal can be done once the petition is filed online." It said.
Anna Construction and Unorganised Workers Association's General Secretary Murugesan, AITUC General Secretary Selvaraj, Coimbatore district Construction and Unorganised Workers Association Secretary Manoharan, INTUC Workers Union Head Siranjeevi Kannan and many others took part in this event.
