Industrialists have demanded relief for small and cottage industries.
Coimbatore: The second wave of the Covid-19 infection has had a severe impact on all sides. In this context, the District President of the Tamil Nadu Industrial and Micro Entrepreneurs Association (TACT), James said, “The rapid spread of the second wave of pandemic has caused a severe crisis in an environment where the small business sector has not yet recovered from the effects of the first wave.
Of the more than 30,000 small businesses operating in the Coimbatore district and more than 80% of them are operating in rented premises.
Meanwhile the local officials are taking steps to control the spread of Covid-19. However, steps should be taken to provide relief to protect small and cottage industries because of their impact. The annual income of the industry must be calculated and the companies should be provided with 10% relief. Apart from this, the Central Government should take action to cancel the interest on bank loans purchased by small and cottage industries for one year.
Also a special meeting chaired by the Collector should be held immediately in each district to ask about the issues faced not only by small and cottage industries but also by the "MSME" industry as a whole.
There is no alternative to Covid-19 being contagious. But 'hunger' and 'financial crisis' are worse than that. Without government help, thousands of businesses will disappear,”
