M K Stalin sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
Chennai: DMK leader M K Stalin was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at Raj Bhawan in Chennai, on Friday morning. He was administered the oath by Governor Banwarilal Purohit. Along with Stalin, 33 other ministers from his party also took the oath.
Due to the second wave of Covid-19 sweeping across the State, the swearing-in ceremony was held in a simple manner, adhering to all Covid protocols, with less than 300 people invited for the ceremony. Earlier, DMK Chief M K Stalin had urged his cadres and the public to watch the swearing-in ceremony from home, since it was being telecast live.
After taking the oath as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin visited Kalaignar Karunanidhi Memorial and paid floral tributes. M K Stalin is due to visit Periyar Thidal, Perasiriyar Illam and then Gopalapuram today. He will arrive at the General Secretariat at 4 pm and be there till 7 pm, where he will hold the first cabinet meeting of the new DMK regime. Thereafter, M K Stalin will hold consultations with the District Collectors where he will be expected to make a number of important suggestions regarding the administration and Covid-19 restrictions that need to be in place.
With the DMK-led coalition winning 159 seats in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, thus gaining a thumping majority, the DMK party MLAs unanimously elected DMK leader Stalin as their leader in the Assembly. Following this, with a letter of support from the MLAs, Governor Banwarilal Purohit declared that M K Stalin would be the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
