Coimbatore:
Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev founder of Isha Foundations has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Madras High Court seeking direction to conduct an external audit of the temples in Tamil Nadu. He requested the commission to examine the conditions of shrines across Tamilnadu.
The PIL petition was filed on Friday, as there was no response from the government following repeated appeals by Isha Founder and his supporters regarding the issue.
Sadhguru requested an external audit of Rs 44,000 plus temples under Hindu Religious Charity and Endowments department to determine the conditions of all the structures, associated lands and immovable assets, status of possession and occupation of the temple properties, the rents received and the dues, etc.
He also wanted to set up a commision of experts to manage temples, its rituals, practices and to examine decentralisation of the temples to the community.
Sadhguru in March started the hashtag “Free TN temples” at Twitter where he mandated the need to renovate the temples in TamilNadu which are tearing down without maintenance.
BJP has listened to Sadhguru's request as their manifesto for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the party promised to hand over the administration of Hindu temples to a separate board consisting of Hindu scholars and saints.
