A complaint has risen that the postal workers in the Coimbatore division were not allowed to work from home even after the notification.
Coimbatore: Two Head Post Offices are functioning in Goodshed Road and RS Puram in Coimbatore. In addition, there are 79 sub post offices and more than 100 branch post offices across the division.
There are a total of 2,000 employees in Coimbatore and a circular was sent to all the Divisional Head Post Offices on the 26th from the Central Directorate of Posts as the second wave of Covid-19 is intensifying across the country.
In the circular it was mentioned that " all post office centers should only be open until 2 p.m. Notice boards about this reduction in working hours should be placed at all post offices. Divisional officers may decide that the minimum number of employees be employed in accordance with the Postal Service of a particular branch. Employees are also allowed to work from home. However, restrictions on express mail, registered mail and parcel services should be avoided. It has been suggested to maintain records of those engaged in work from home." It said.

In this connection, an official of the Coimbatore Divisional Postal Employees Union said that " 6 employees at the Saravanampatti sub post office, one at the Kumarapalayam sub post office and one at the sub post office near Avinashi Road and Anna statue branch were infected with Covid-19.
Meanwhile, a postal writer working on Goodshed Road in Coimbatore has died of a Covid infection. Yet all the post offices and employees are forced to work. We are not allowed to work with a lesser number of employees.
Only the training classes offered to postal workers have been canceled. As stated in the circular, the opportunity has been offered to work from home in other zones. That opportunity was not given in the Coimbatore Zone.
Covid prevention equipment is not provided to employees. As a result, postal workers are being affected by the virus. Therefore, the Coimbatore postal department should immediately take action to allow working with less staff to work from home as per the guidelines of the Central Postal Directorate." he said.
