Periyanaickenpalayam flyover works being neglected: Public demand for highway department to take action
Coimbatore: There is a negligence in the construction of the flyover from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya to Samychettipalayam at Periyanaickenpalayam on the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam road.
The public has demanded that the highway department officials take action. 1.4 km long flyover from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya to Samichettipalayam section at Periyanaickenpalayam on Coimbatore-Mettupalayam road at a cost of about Rs. 85 crore. For this purpose, the roadside occupations from the LMW section near Periyanaickenpalayam to the Samichettipalayam section have been cleared of trees and the construction of the flyover is in full swing.
Giant pits have been dug to erect pillars at the LMW Division Periyanaickenpalayam Bus Stand and Samichettipalayam Division. In this, the work of erecting pillars from the LMW section area to Samichettipalayam is in full swing. Meanwhile the giant pits are left carelessly without proper security arrangements. Encroachments were also removed to construct the service road but the work has slowed down due to dumping of the gravel in the area. The dust formed lessens vision and during the night and rainy seasons, there is a risk of vehicles falling into giant pits and causing accidents.
Public said, "Giant pits were dug for the flyover. But, the barriers are not set up properly. The locals know this because they go through this every day. However, there is a risk of vehicles falling into giant pits when outsiders use the road. Also, the works are going on as if the service roads are not taken forward due to the dumping of gravel which is causing a lot of dust. Air pollution is on the rise. Highways officials must take immediate action. "
National Highways Department official said, "Periyanaickenpalayam flyover will be four lanes and 17.5 meters wide. The flyover is scheduled to be completed within a year. Service roads are being laid. Flyover work is underway with adequate safety equipment and arrangements. ''
