"Preparation of setting tables at city's GCT vote counting center is 90 percent complete:" District Election Officer
Coimbatore: The Government College of Technology (GCT) campus in Coimbatore which is the counting centre for election results is abuzz with activity. Tables for counting of votes of the Assembly elections have been arranged. A district election officer stated that preparations for counting of votes was 90 percent complete.
Elections were held in 4427 polling stations on April 6 for 10 assembly constituencies in Coimbatore district comprising Mettupalayam, Kavundampalayam, Thondamuthur, Coimbatore North, Coimbatore South, Singanallur, Sulur, Kinathukkadavu, Pollachi and Valparai in Coimbatore district. The EVMs and VVPATs that were used during elections were stored safely amidst tight security at the GCT campus. All the votes cast in the Assembly elections will be counted on 2nd of May. 438 civil servants are to be involved in the counting of votes. Of the 10 assembly constituencies in Coimbatore, 20 tables have been set up for Kavundampalayam constituency and 14 tables for other nine constituencies.
The district election officer said, "A total of 146 tables is being set up at the GCT counting center for counting of votes cast during the Assembly elections. The work has been going on at full swing since last week and 90 percent of the work has been completed, thus far with remaining work to be completed in a couple of days."
