Corporation Commissioner informs that report by Anna University team on the Periyakulam wall collapse in Coimbatore is awaited
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, Kumaravel Pandian had earlier said that a team of technical experts from the Anna University Department of Architecture would be appointed to look into the cause of the Periyakulam wall collapse.
He said the report would be received and if there were any technical errors in the work, appropriate action would be taken against the contractor, the project supervisory consultancy and the field engineers. In this regard, a team of Anna University technical experts conducted a study last week. The Corporation Commissionerhas now informed that, "A team of Anna University technicians inspected the site of the collapse of the compound wall in the Periyakulam pond in Ukkadam area. We look forward to hearing from them soon."
Reconstruction of eight ponds within the boundaries of the Corporation under the Smart City Project in Coimbatore Corporation had been approved at an estimated cost of Rs. 320 crores and work is underway in full swing. Of this, a work order was issued to Kathirvel & Co. Contractor for the reconstruction of the south part of the Periyakulam pond at a cost of Rs. 62.17 crores. The work started in March 2019 and is currently in progress.
