Coimbatore: In spite of TASMAC stores being shut on account of Mahavir Jayanti and the imposed lockdown, police arrested eight men for hoarding and selling liquor bottles in Coimbatore's Peelamedu, Gandhi Nagar, Pothanur and Saravanampatti areas. About 85 bottles of liquor worth Rs. 3000 were seized from them and an investigation is under progress.
Elsewhere, in a tragic incident, a 14-year old girl fell to her death on a wayside stone. Chandra Tathri who hails from Bihar lives with his wife Lal Muni and daughter Chandrakumari (14) in Kannampalayam next to Coimbatore.
On Sunday, Chandrakumari had gone to the house next door to watch TV. Hearing her mother Lal Muni call for her, Chandrakumari reportedly ran fast and fell on a stone that she had stumbled on. Her parents rushed the girl to Coimbatore Government Hospital but the doctors who examined her serious head injuries declared that she was brought in dead.
