Two counts of robberies in Coimbatore taking advantage of the curfew on Sunday.
Coimbatore: Mariappan, (57) of Kothari Nagar, Singanallur in Coimbatore, works as an electricity board officer in Ondipudur. On the 23rd he and his family members went to his hometown Tirunelveli.
On coming back this morning, Mariappan saw the front door was broken into and found 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery and one and a half lakh rupees were looted from the house.
Mariappan lodged a complaint with the Singanallur police. Police have registered a case and are looking for the convicts with the help of clues from fingerprint experts.
Similarly, in another incident cash from a supermarket which was operating in Masakalipalayam near Singanallur in Coimbatore was looted.
When the employees of the shop came to work this morning, the front door of the shop was broken open and the 13 lakh 84 thousand cash kept in the shop missing. The shop was on holiday yesterday because of the curfew. Using this, it was revealed that some unidentified burglars broke the shutters of the shop and entered the shop and looted the money.
