Mysterious gang loots Rs 10.72 lakhs from a TASMAC outlet at Lawley Road in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: With weekend curfew clamped across Tamil Nadu from 10 pm on Saturday to 4 am on Monday to curb the second wave of Covid-19, a mysterious gang used the opportunity to break into a TASMAC outlet on Lawley Road in Coimbatore and looted Rs. 10.72 lakhs cash and Rs.3000 worth of liquor bottles from inside the store.
"Since Sunday was a holiday, Friday's collection of Rs. 3 lakhs, weekend lockdown liquor sale on Saturday worth Rs. 7 lakhs were safely kept at the store before shutting down. On arriving at the shop today, we saw the lock broken and the shutter opened," revealed shocked employees at the outlet.
Upon receiving the information, the R S Puram police officials arrived at the TASMAC outlet and confirmed that the money had indeed been looted.
CCTV footage in the area is being investigated with sniffer dogs and forensic experts also pressed into service at the scene to collect evidence. Police officials have launched a man-hunt to trace the criminals.
