Coimbatore: Salon owners, employees of beauty salons and barbers have been banned from offering services in Tamil Nadu from Monday owing to new restrictions that have been imposed by the government to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Tamil Nadu Shaving Workers' Union (TSWU) petitioned S Nagarajan, the Coimbatore District Collector lamenting that the Government's recent order to close all salons would severely affect their working community since many had lost their jobs due to the economic downturn, during the lockdown last year. They were of the opinion that the recent order would completely affect their livelihood.
"Coimbatore Corporation comprises over 1500 salons and the Government must allow us to open our salons at least from 7 am to 12 noon for the benefit of our workers and their families," stated the Tamil Nadu Shaving Workers Union in their petition to the Collector.
