Coimbatore: Last year due to the first wave of Covid-19 full curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure to avoid the spread of the disease for around 40 days. It was followed by day-to-day outbreaks of the disease which affected thousands of people. Many lost their jobs and returned to their hometowns due to the continuous lockdown.
Those who came here to TamilNadu for hired work from other states were in a critical situation without access to proper transportation to their home states. Many died during this without food to eat.
Then, a curfew with relaxations was followed. Compulsory wearing of face masks, social distancing in public places and many other rules werefollowed to control the infection to some extent.
The TamilNadu government has been urging the people to follow a number of rules to avoid becoming infected, some have returned to normal life after the pandemic was brought under control. So over a period of time the public began to show indifference and began to forget the guidelines such as maintaining social distancing and wearing a mask in public places.
Following the announcement regarding the date for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, public rallies followed election campaigns took place. In most of such campaigns no such infection prevention regulations were mostly followed. At that time, the number of infections in Tamil Nadu, which was less than 500 per day, was slowly starting to rise slightly.
With the election and big election rallies, the cases have started to rise everyday. The government of Tamilnadu imposed various restrictions on April 10, including a ban on religious events, only 50 people at weddings and only 50% at places like theater and malls.
Following that, the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic had a huge impact on India and the number of victims per day has reached 3 lakh 49 thousand today.
In this situation, many people across the country have died due to lack of adequate medical infrastructure and oxygen for treatment in other states. Frontline field workers like corporation staff, sanitary workers, journalists, police and medical personnel have died succumbing to the disease spread.
The infection rate in TamilNadu has reached upto 15,000 per day as the highest. At the same time, vaccination companies quoting graded prices for vaccination has created a shock amidst the public.
