Tirupur: Work From Home method is being followed in most IT/ITES companies as Covid-19 is having a severe impact on the industry. Due to this, the demand for casual wear as an alternative to 'formal wear', such as T-shirts and shorts for women, has increased many times not only domestically but also for foreign companies.
This has been confirmed by the textile industry operating in Tirupur district. The availability of these orders during the pandemic has given them some comfort and hope.
Raja M Shanmugam, President, Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) said, "Most companies from various industries have moved to work from home for employees due to the spread of Covid-19 virus. This practice is followed not only in India but also in various countries around the world. This has led to an increase in the demand for casual wear.
Demand for this specialty clothing has grown significantly as more and more office meetings are being held online. Casual wears which look life formal wears are in demand especially Knee Top for women. Apart from these basic clothes varieties and fabrics are very popular in European countries.
In the last 2019-20 financial year, a total of 27 thousand crore rupees in Tirupur worth readymade garments export business was done. But the first two months of 2020-21 were severely affected by the spread of Covid-19 and the remaining 10 months saw a trade of 25 thousand crores rupees.
The second wave of the current pandemic is spreading rapidly as the industry is beginning to recover from the impact of the first wave of Covid-19. This has created panic about the future of Tirupur export industry as a whole.
Fear is high among industrialists fearing that the export orders will be affected due to the spread of this second wave especially in an environment where casual garments are currently being used by people who are working from home globally.
We warmly welcome the efforts taken by the Central and State Governments to prevent the spread of the disease. However, people must be encouraged to carry out their businesses with confidence and without fear, just like helping to treat victims.
