Coimbatore:A complete one-day lockdown will be observed across Tamil Nadu from 10 pm tonight to 4 am on Monday to control the spread of COVID-19. The public is prohibited from leaving the house.
In this case, no vehicle other than essential vehicles, including ambulances, is allowed on the roads.
There are 12 check posts in Coimbatore city limits. Police are to carry out intensive surveillance at these checkpoints from 10 pm tonight. Also, additional 22 temporary checkpoints have been set up in the city to monitor the movement of the public. 2,000 policemen are to be involved in this surveillance mission. A further four-wheeler patrol vehicles will patrol the two-wheelers and engage in surveillance work.
The Municipal Police officials said, "A full curfew will be observed from 10 pm tonight to 4 am on Monday to control the spread of the COVID-19. Due to this, the public is not allowed to leave the house. Violation of this will result in confiscation of vehicles and prosecution. Therefore, people should fully comply with the order issued by the government not to leave their homes."
Also, 1500 policemen are on security duty in the suburbs of Coimbatore. Police have set up barricades on major roads in Pollachi, Mettupalayam, Periyanayakanpalayam, Dudiyalur and Kinathukkadavu.
A total of 4,000 policemen are on security duty across Coimbatore.
This will be the first nighttime curfew that will be observed in Coimbatore since the last 12 days. On the first day, the police alerted those who were seen in the vehicles after 10 pm.Cases have been registered against those who roamed the vehicles from 10 pm since April 14 and action has been taken.
From the 14th to the 22nd of last month, 170 people were prosecuted. In this case, 90 people were prosecuted last night and action was taken. It is noteworthy that a total of 260 students have cases registered for violating the night curfew.
The Tamil Nadu government has also revised the COVID-19 restrictions. They will come into effect from April 26th.
