Coimbatore: With the second wave of Covid-19 sweeping across the nation, Coimbatore District has also witnessed a sudden spike with 889 people found infected with Covid-19 in a single day, on Friday.
At the same time, oxygen beds have been set up in Government and private hospitals to provide immediate relief to those suffering from infections and pulmonary embolism.
Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Dean, Dr. A Nirmala said, "Coimbatore ESI Hospital has 300 oxygen beds, full of patients. At the Coimbatore Government Hospital, 50 per cent of the oxygen beds are vacant. Of this, 500 beds have been provided with oxygen.
About 50 percent of the total beds are empty. For surgery, upto 5 kilolitres of oxygen per day is required. We have an oxygen tank with a capacity of 13 kilolitres. There is no chance of a shortage as oxygen is filled in very day,” she reassured.
