Coimbatore: With Coimbatore district recording 889 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday which is the highest ever single day spike taking the total number of positive cases to 71161, multiple treatment facilities have increased their bed counts in order to ensure patients do not complain of unavailability of beds.
Coimbatore: With Coimbatore district recording 889 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday which is the highest ever single day spike taking the total number of positive cases to 71161, multiple treatment facilities have increased their bed counts in order to ensure patients do not complain of unavailability of beds.
As many as 419 people were discharged today, taking the total number of patients who had recovered and were discharged in the district to 64,621. However, no death owing to Covid 19 has been reported today in the district.
While the district is going through its worst pandemic days going by the highest cases confirmed in recent days, the shortage of vaccines in various treatment facilities have also been a grave cause for concern. However, the Health Department officials managed to replenish as many as 40,000 doses from Chennai. But, the notice board inside the campus of Mettupalayam Government Hospital on Thursday shocked the public in Mettupalayam since it notified that the hospital management had temporarily stopped vaccinating public due to the absence of vaccines.
With incidents like these alarming the public, both Government and private hospitals in the district have already started to increase bed facilities to avoid being in news headlines owing to complaints by patients and the public. As many as 575 beds and 1,107 beds are available in both Government and private hospitals in the district, according to the district administration’s data released recently.
It is learnt that a few private hospitals which were designated to provide vaccines in the district are already running out of beds, and are without oxygen and ventilator support.
Wishing to be anonymous, a group of private hospital mid-level sources spoke to SimpliCity saying that they can only admit patients in general ward beds which have no oxygen and ventilator support, since they are running short of beds.
The ESI Hospital had 680 beds, out of which 605 beds have already been taken up by patients. In many cases, people are still scouting for beds at private hospitals, prioritising luxury over emergency.
