"Private schools should not operate arbitrarily:" warns Chief Educational Officer, M Ramakrishnan
Coimbatore: The District Chief Educational Officer (CEO), M Ramakrishnan has announced that all Class 11 admissions should begin only after receiving notification from the Government and private schools should not operate arbitrarily. "Action will be initiated against schools who begin admission before they receive the notification," warned the CEO.
For Class 10, the public examination was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic and clear guidelines for calculating marks for the students had not been issued on behalf of the School Education Department. Recently, news spread on social media that students who wanted to score higher marks can write the board examinations at their respective schools.
Director of School Education, Dr. S Kannappan, however, refuted the information being circulated. "The calculation of marks for Class 10 and 11 have not been officially published to carry out admission procedures and also there is no notice issued for Class 11 admissions in Government schools," he clarified.
Rumours are rife that many private schools are denying Class 11 admission to their students and that they can offer different streams only if they pay immediately which has caused stress for parents. The scenario is similar not only in Coimbatore but in the entire state and with the second wave of Covid 19 sweeping across the nation, parents are suffering due to declining incomes.
In this context, District Collector Nagarajan stated that Class 11 admissions should not be done at present and schools will be informed about this through a circular, and also assuring that action will be taken soon in this regard.
