The lorry was carrying eggs on the Coimbatore-Trichy National Highways
Tirupur: A drunk driver who operated a lorry carrying eggs collided head-on with three shops on the roadside near Palladam bus stand in Tirupur district last night. The lorry has also crashed into a nearby two-wheeler workshop.
Locals who witnessed the crash informed the Palladam police. The truck driver fled the scene before police arrived at the scene.
When the police arrived, the preliminary investigations revealed that the lorry was travelling on the Coimbatore-Trichy National Highway when it overturned and lost control. This has led to the lorry collision with the roadside shops. It was also revealed that the lorry driver was drunk and fled the scene of the accident.
The roadside shops were completely damaged in the accident. Two-wheelers parked at the two-wheeler workshop were also damaged. Thousands of eggs were also broken. Palladam police are searching for the lorry driver who escaped after causing an accident under the influence of alcohol.
No major casualties were reported as the crash happened at midnight. The public accused that many drivers often drive under the influence of alcohol on national highways.
It is to be noted that three people, including a 7-year-old girl from the a single family, were killed in a similar accident near Kamanaickenpalayam by a drunk driver a few days ago.
