Coimbatore: More than 100 people today bought ration items at a ration shop in Okkilipalayam village near Pollachi. To the ration card holders, rice with lots of stone and dirt was distributed today.
When the public asked the ration shop officer about this, he allegedly answered rudely. This enraged people and they placed the substandard rice they had bought in front of the ration shop. The public sieged the shop and engaged in a protest.
The locals also alleged that this particular ration shop always provides substandard products and that the items were provided only if one buys some groceries kept there.
Since the public returned all the substandard rice bags to the ration staff, this has caused a stir in the area for a while.
