In 2020, a total of 10,816 million units of electricity was evacuated during the season.
Coimbatore: Wind power, a renewable energy source plays a vital role in fulfilling the increasing electricity demands. The total installed capacity across the nation is more than 38,000 megawatts, in which 9,500 megawatts installed capacity is established in Tamil Nadu.
Usually, the windy season starts during the end of May and it will last till September. In recent years, the season starts earlier. In 2021, the windy season has begun during the first week of April.
Forecast experts have also predicted that this year, the total electricity generation will be good as the power generated in 2020. They had evacuated more than 10,000 million units of electricity last year. So, the windy season has now given a big hope among the developers.

Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA) President, K Kasthurirangaiyan said, "This year, the Western wind season started during the first week of April. But from day one, the wind speed is not consistent. In the coming days, it is expected to become stable."
He also said that in the previous year, a total of 10,816 million units of electricity was evacuated during the season.
"This year also the forecast has predicted that the total electricity generation will be as good as the previous year. This has given hope to the wind power developers," added Kasthurirangaiyan.
