Due to fear of contracting COVID-19 infection, number of passengers travelling in buses in Coimbatore are dwindling
Coimbatore: With the Tamil Nadu government imposing a night curfew from April 20 as well as a lockdown on Sunday, to curb the spread of spiraling COVID-19 cases, operation of Government and private inter-district transport services at night have also been clamped down.
As a result, Government express buses operating from Coimbatore Thiruvalluvar bus stand at night have been cancelled. As of today, bus services from Coimbatore will be operational to other states and district only from 7 am to 11 pm. 30 Government express buses were parked at the bus stand and helped facilitate passengers to travel to Chennai, Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Kuttam, Kanyakumari, Bangalore and Tirupati.
On behalf of the State Transport Corporation, buses have been parked at the Singanallur bus stand to help passengers travel to other districts. Night buses are cancelled from today owing to the implementation of night curfew. Of the 140 buses operating to the outer districts, 40 buses were cancelled. 100 buses are on standby and some buses departed from 6.30 am to 12 noon to other districts, depending on the crowd of passengers travelling.
Passengers were allowed to board buses only if they wore face masks. Also before boarding the bus, all passengers' temperaturewas checked with strict instructions to maintain social distancing.
But due to the fear of rising COVID-19 cases, passengers travelling in the bus seemed to be dwindling.
