"Tamil Nadu's TASMAC outlets closed today; Liquor will be sold on other days on token basis adhering to social distancing:" Minister P Thangamani
Coimbatore: With several new restrictions coming into effect on April 20 to curb COVID-19, the Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise, P Thangamani has announced that all TASMAC outlets will remain shut today.
"All other bars will be closed on other days while TASMAC outlets will be open only till 9 pm and closed on all Sundays. Customers who need to buy liquor on other days have to adhere to social distancing norms while buying liquor. They will also be asked to sanitize their hands before buying alcohol. Only those who stand in queues will be given liquor on a token basis," he added.
With Tamil Nadu breaching 10,000 COVID-19 cases on a single day, on Sunday, the total caseload of the State stood at 9.91 lakhs with 10,723 people testing positive. Hence, the State government has announced several new restrictions that include night curfew across Tamil Nadu and complete lockdown on Sunday. All restrictions will be enforced as of today, April 20.
