A fine of Rs. 1 crore has been collected from public who have not adhered to wearing face masks in Coimbatore

Traffic police at signals are strictly monitoring public who do not adhere to the safety rule of wearing masks while commuting in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Various preventive measures against COVID-19 have been taken on behalf of the Coimbatore district administration and the Health Department. Testing for fever in people is being done increasingly throughout the city along with vaccination drives. Officials have requested public to adhere to wearing face masks in public as well as maintaining social distancing.

Public have also been urged to avoid going out unnecessarily. Officials have requested people to wash hands often and test if there are symptoms of common cold. A team of 40 people has been set up in 15 zones in Coimbatore to monitor the COVID-19 second wave situation and to stringently check public with regard to wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

The Coimbatore police have also been levying Rs. 200 as fine for not wearing masks and Rs. 500 for shops that do not adhere to social distancing guidelines as stipulated by the Government.

Yesterday, Coimbatore Corporation fined 1,700 people in the northern region, 6,300 in the eastern region and 3,400 in the western region, adding to a total of 11,400 people who were fined. Thus far, a fine of Rs. 99,16,355 has been levied on the public for not following the guidelines stipulated by the Government in the Coimbatore Corporation area.
