Forest department warns public of elephant movement ahead of jackfruit season
Coimbatore: With the onset of the fruit season in Coonoor in the Nilgiris district, the forest department has urged motorists to drive carefully as the elephant movement has increased.

There are numerous jack trees in government and privately owned plantations in the Coonoor area of the Nilgiris, such as Baraliyar, Marappalam, Pudukkad Tribal Village, etc. The jackfruit season has just begun. Elephants have started camping with their calves on the Coonoor - Mettupalayam hill road.

With the onset of summer season in the Nilgiris district, more and more vehicles will be plying on this road. Forest department has urged motorists to drive very carefully, especially when traveling on this road at night.
