District administration rescues 19 Odisha women locked up in Tirupur to stop them from going to their hometown
Coimbatore: District administration rescues 19 women from Odisha following a complaint that they were locked in a separate room without allowing them to return home.
A large number of workers from the state of Odisha have come and stayed for training at a private knitting company in Tirupur 15 Velampalayam area. Some of them went to their hometowns last month and the rest of the workers tried to return home due to fears of a coronavirus lockdown, but the knitting company snatched their cell phones and locked them in a room without allowing them to return home.
The complaint was brought to the attention of the district administration after workers from the state of Odisha lodged a complaint in their home state. As a result, the Social Welfare Department, the Revenue Department and the police conducted a search at the knitting company and found that 19 women had been locked in a separate room and then brought them to a private wedding hall to make arrangements for their return home.
