Work is currently underway to construct a landing platform on both sides of the flyover and to construct a 19.60 meter wide flyover near the Sungam area.
Coimbatore: The flyover work on the Coimbatore-Trichy Road between Rainbow Theater and Singanallur Lake is being undertaken at a cost of Rs 250 crore. Highways Department Officials have said that around 80% of the construction work has been completed so far.
Construction of the flyover on the Coimbatore-Trichy road began in 2019. The flyover is being constructed at a distance of 3 km from the Rainbow area to the stock market exchange office on the Trichy-Coimbatore road.
A total of 111 pillars have been erected for the bridge. The flyover is said to have 4 lanes with a width of 17.20 meters. In the Sungam area, the width of the flyover is changed to 19.60 meters.
Construction of the flyover was affected by the lockdown in April and May last year. Since the announcement of relaxation the work has been carried out intensively.
Currently, 80% of the work on the flyover has been completed. Work is currently underway to construct a landing platform on both sides of the flyover and to construct a 19.60 meter wide flyover near the Sungam area.
According to Highways Department officials, "a landing slope has been set up at a distance of 400 meters on the Sungam-Ukkadam road on the Coimbatore-Trichy road to facilitate vehicles coming from Singanallur to Pollachi and to Kerala via Ukkadam. The work of laying concrete pillars for this has been completed. The landing is width of flyover will enable travel of 2 vehicles at the same time.
All these overpass works are yet to be completed and will be completed in 3 months. Works are to be done on both sides of the bridge which will be opened for use soon. The flyover will land on Ukkadam Road. Once this work is completed, the service roads will be constructed under the flyover." Said the authorities.
