Over 100 plus Forest Department Officials are involved in this census work by dividing the Pollachi, Valparai, Oolandhi and Manampalli Forest Reserve into 21 zones.
Coimbatore: Wild animals like Tigers, Elephants, Leopards, Monkeys, Bison's and other animals live in the areas of Anamalai Tiger Reserve which is an extension of Western Ghats near Pollachi in Coimbatore.
TamilNadu's state animal the Nilgiri Tahr is also commonly found here. The census of these Nilgiri Tahrs which lives in between mountain rocks has begun today. This census will come to end in 3 days.

Today, the census activity was undertaken at the Attakatti area in Pollachi where the Nilgiri Tahrs are commonly sighted. During the census, the habitat area of Nilgiri Tahr, total population of the Nilgiri Tahr and their wastes are being noted.

Using GPS, the area of dense Nilgiri Tahr is also noted. Officials say that after the survey for 3 days an official report will be sent to WWF ( World Wildlife Fund) organization.
