Valparai Municipal Commissioner awards multiple projects to AIADMK during election code of conduct; on the run after police books him in graft case

Coimbatore: Pavunraj, who was the Valparai Municipal Commissioner is alleged to have given a Rs 12 crore project to an AIADMK member violating the election rules by giving the project after the announcement of the poll date. It is also said that Pavunraj has received a commission worth crores to close this deal.

Former Communist MLA Arumugam filed a complaint with the election officer. Based on the complaint, the district collector had issued an order transferring him.

In this situation, the Coimbatore District Crime Branch police have filed a fraud case against Pavunraj and are searching for him. Yesterday, the district crime branch police and district election officials sent officers working in Valparai municipality out and searched Pavunraj's room. At that time, various documents were seized.

Meanwhile, todaythe Coimbatore District Crime Branch PoliceOfficials have registered a case against Pavunraj under Sections 14|2021, 408 420 and are looking for him.

But, it is also said that Pavunraj took an earlier vacation just over a week ago and went back to his hometown. Currently, the police are searching for him thoroughly.

In the petition sent by Arumugam, former MLA of Valparai it is said that "Pavunraj has violated election rules by handing out a project of Rs 12 crore to an AIADMK member. Pavunraj has received a commission of crores through this deal. This is an election irregularity. Serious actions must be taken regarding this incident." He said.

The District Electoral Officers and the Coimbatore District Crime Branch Police have taken action on the basis of the petition on the orders of the Chief Electoral Officer. Further, it is said that the relevant documents related to the crime were seized during the police investigation.
