Tirupur: Amaravathi Sugar Factory in Krishnarajapuram near Udumalaipet is Tamil Nadu's oldest Co-operative Sugar Factory founded in 1961. It has been successfully operational for about 60 years now. Due to various malfunctions and decisions made by the Sugarcane Factory management last year, very few farmers have volunteered to process their sugarcanes in the factory, lately.
Over 10,000 acres of farm lands surrounding the factory are used to cultivate sugarcane. But only farmers from 3500 acres have decided to process their sugarcanes with the Amaravathi Co-operative Sugar Factory. Hence the factory management has decided to encourage farmers who did not register to come and process their sugarcanes at the factory.

If production remains low, the factory is likely to be closed down by the Central Government owing to high maintenance.

Amaravathi Sugar Factory, being a co-operative factory with a capacity of two tons, has set its goal this year to one ton this year. The management has also requested farmers' support to keep the factory
