Pond renovation work is underway under the Smart City project and as a part of this, a 12-feet high compound wall and pavement were erected in Ashok Nagar area on the banks of Ukkadam Periyakulam, in the last 6 months. Work under the Smart City project is currently in its final stage.
The 12-feet high compound wall in the Ashok Nagar area collapsed to about 50 meters due to heavy rains in the city, two days ago. The collapse of the compound wall caused panic among the residents of the area.
Kamal Haasan alleged that it had only been six months since the construction of the wall and the collapse of the wall clearly indicates that the construction work was of poor quality. He thus stressed that all Government structures built in the last five years should be inspected.
