438 Govt. employees to be involved in vote counting: Electoral Officer
Coimbatore: The Electoral Officer has announced that 438 Government employees will be involved in the counting of votes in 10 assembly constituencies in Coimbatore district which include Mettupalayam, Kavundampalayam, Thondamuthur, Coimbatore North, Coimbatore South, Singanallur, Sulur, Kinathukadavu, Pollachi and Valparai.
Assembly elections were held for all 10 constituencies in Coimbatore district on April 6, in a peaceful manner. The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPATs used for the elections have been stored safely amidst tight security at the Government College of Technology (GCT) campus which is the counting centre in Coimbatore. All registered votes of all 10 Assembly constituencies will be counted on May 2.
The Electoral Officer detailed that out of the 10 Assembly constituencies in Coimbatore, 20 tables will be set up for the Kavundampalayam constituency and 14 for the other nine constituencies. Three employees have been selected including one supervisor, assistant and micro-monitoring officer for each table. A maximum of 35 rounds of counting will be held in Coimbatore North constituency and a minimum of 21 rounds in Valparai constituency. The Government employees who will be counting votes are to be trained soon.
