Human Rights Commission serves notice to Transport Department to investigate Erode bus incident

A Bus conductor is said to have attacked an old man for not giving the exact change in Erode.


Coimbatore: In Erode, there was an incident of an old man being attacked by a bus conductor. Following this, the Human Rights Commission has sent the notice to the Coimbatore Transportation Department Director to respond within 3 weeks.

Ganesan (73) is a vegetable vendor who belonged to Telugu Chettiyar Street in Chithode, Erode. On April 13th, Ganesan travelled from Chithode to Erode to buy vegetables on a government bus.

During the journey, Bus conductor Kumar (34) asked Ganesan to give the exact change to get his ticket. He told Ganesan to get down from the bus if he did not have the exact change.



When he reached the Erode bus stand, conductor Kumar attacked the old man. He also pushed Ganesan down. Fellow passengers who took the video posted it on social media. The video spread like wildfire, after which Erode Public Transport Manager suspended conductor Kumar.

In this regard, a notice was sent to the General Manager of Coimbatore Transport Corporation by the Human Rights Commission.

The Human Rights Commission has asked the transport corporation to conduct an investigation regarding this incident and has asked them to submit a report within 3 weeks.

The transport workers and the public are startled after hearing about this incident.
