Forest Officials have undertaken a necropsy procedure to find the cause of death.
Coimbatore: Wild animals including Leopards, Deers and Elephants reside in the Sirumugai area of Mettupalayam, Coimbatore. Forest Officials in the area usually go on frequent rounds to ensure no animals or the public are being attacked.
Forest Officials went on their regular duty yesterday near the areas of Ooliyur, Beet, Bethikudai and Cholamadevi. At that time, the officials found a baby elephant dead and were shocked by the incident.
Following this, another Sirumugai Forest Ranger, Veterinary doctor Senthilkumar and other forest officials immediately arrived at the scene.
Upon investigation, it was found that there were no injuries on the baby elephant and a necropsy was done at the scene. In the report by the forest officials, it was said that the dead baby elephant is a female of age 3.
The cause of death was not identified and there would have been marks on the body if there was a fight between other elephants. The forest officials are yet to find out if the death was a result of various other infections. More details will be revealed post the necropsy.
