Coimbatore: Puthiya Tamilagam Katchi Leader K Krishnasamy met with reporters in Coimbatore. he addressed various issues like the COVID-19 spread, the elections and safety gears.
Talking about the pandemic, Krishnasamy said, "In March last year, a massive pandemic of coronavirus spread around the world, causing great suffering to the people. Subsequently, the severity of the disease gradually decreased and was brought under control in January this year. Thus the public was again able to engage in their routine with some precautionary measures. Now the coronavirus epidemic has escalated again since the start of the election campaign in March, largely without any preventive measures being followed. Central governments need to act quickly to control the pandemic."
He added, "Apart from doing proper tests for coronavirus infection and confirming the infection, it is a completely wrong approach to isolate people on basis of main symptoms like cold, body aches etc. Now that the pandemic is on the rise again, the central government has imposed various restrictions. This will further create a huge economic burden on businesses and the general public. No one is ready to endure it. The government should take precautionary measures. "
Krishnasamy suggested that a lot of testing camps should be set up at the state and district level to carry out the tests as well as to vaccinate everyone. "There are allegations that the supply of vaccines is low and the government must act quickly in this regard," the political leader said.
Referring to the functioning of Tasmac shops amid COVID-19 restrictions, he said, "Why doesn't the Tamil Nadu government impose any restrictions on Tasmac, which has imposed many restrictions, including on temples and public events? Government not imposing restrictions on Tasmac does not seem to be genuine disease control measures."
Krishnasamy also spoke about the greater need for awareness among people for COVID-19 among people from the government's side. "In view of the controlling spread of disease, the government should provide free face masks to the people as well as place disinfectants in public places. The system of imposing fines instead of creating awareness among the people is wrong. Moreover, it is an improper act for the police to trespass and attacks the public and abuse power," he added.
The Puthiya Tamilagam Katchi leader also questioned the purpose of holding elections amid the pandemic. He stated, "It was a mistake to announce the election without considering the well-being of the people during the pandemic. I think the government has failed in its duty. The disease which was under control in January could have been completely eradicated in at least 6 months and elections could have been held thereafter. But today the pandemic has increased again as the Election Commission acted wanting to finish its duty." Krishnasamy also declared that the government has failed in its duty in this regard.
He also pointed out that currently, we find it very difficult to bring the increased spread of infection under control due to the government's inefficiency. Elections could have been postponed. Krishnasamy also said that failing to act swiftly in this matter may result in adverse consequences.
