Two arrested for hoarding 280 bundles of ration rice near Annur
Coimbatore: Police have arrested and imprisoned men for hoarding ration rice. According to the police, 280 bundles of ration rice, weighing 14 tonnes were seized near Coimbatore and the two men involved in the hoarding were arrested.
Coimbatore District Food Smuggling Prevention Unit police and Annur police conducted a raid on a farm godown at Sokkampalayam, Annur next to Coimbatore district, on Tuesday night. Ration rice weighing 50 kg each was stacked in 280 bundles in the godown where cattle food was also being stored and sold.
Police arrested Ramakrishnan (40) and lorry driver Saravanakumar (33) who were caught hoarding 14 tonnes of ration rice and produced them before a magistrate. The lorry used for smuggling ration rice was confiscated. Investigations revealed that the ration rice was stored for several months to be smuggled into Kerala.
