Reports say about 30 sovereign of gold jewellery was looted from locked house of a TNAU professor in Vadavalli.
Coimbatore: Police in Coimbatore are scouring the city in search of burglars who broke into the house of a professor from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Vadavalli. It is reported that 30 sovereign of gold jewellery was looted.
According to the police, Anandan (45) who works as an Assistant Professor at TNAU on Marudhamalai Road in Coimbatore had gone to Dindigul three days ago with his family for a special occasion at his cousin's house. The family returned to Vadavalli in Coimbatore on Wednesday evening, on Tamil New Year's day.
On their return, even as the family opened the front door of the house, they discovered that the portico window of the house had been broken.
On entering the house, they realised that the house had been burgled and about 30 sovereigns of jewellery had been looted from home. Shocked by the discovery of their home being burgled in their absence, Prof. Anandan lodged a complaint at the Vadavalli Police Station.
Police officials have arrived at the residence in Vadavalli and collected evidence with the help of sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts to aid the investigation. The police have been comparing the fingerprints found and also checking the CCTV footages of the building and the street.
Locals in Vadavalli are tense after hearing about the burglary.
