COVID-19 control centers back in action at Coimbatore; 1,846 people were vaccinated in one day through mobile vaccination units.
Coimbatore: With COVID-19 cases in Coimbatore on the rise every day, an average of 600 people per day are being infected. With about 20 lakh people living in Coimbatore Corporation area, about 75 percent COVID-19 cases have been identified in Coimbatore district, just within the Corporation limits itself.
Coimbatore Corporation officials are taking extreme steps to contain the spread of COVID-19 infections by stipulating strict mandatory regulations. Face masks have been made compulsory, a fine of Rs. 200 is being imposed on people who step out of their homes without masks. Officials are patrolling across the city and are imposing a fine from Rs.500 to Rs.5000 for bakeries, restaurants and other business establishments that fail to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines. Business enterprises that continuously break safety protocols are sealed.
Further, people who are above the age of 45 have been urged to get themselves vaccinated at all the 32 Primary Health Centres in Coimbatore corporation. Apart from this, the Government has also set up mobile vaccination units which administer vaccination via 12 vehicles in all the 5 zones of Coimbatore. Meanwhile, to help monitor the spread of COVID-19, in Coimbatore, a 24-hour control and surveillance station is being set up at the main office of Coimbatore Corporation.

Control rooms have also been set up in the North, South, Central, East and West Zones of Coimbatore Corporation for easier reach and execution. A special team has also been formed by the officials, with district corporation school teachers present in them. These teachers will contactinfected people who are under home quarantine via video calls and will help them with their needs to recover.
