Coimbatore Consumer Association requests TN Govt. to cap TASMAC operation timings

With COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu on the rise daily, Coimbatore Consumer Association requests TN Govt..to cap TASMAC operation timings

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Consumer Association has appealed to the Tamil Nadu Government to restrict the timings of TASMAC outlets during the week and shut them down on weekends and other Government holidays as a preventive measure against the rising number of COVID-19 active cases.

The Consumer Awareness and Protection Association (CAPA) President, Ravi Shankar said, "The spread of the disease is increasing day-by-day throughout Tamil Nadu. The Government has taken various measures in this regard and we welcome that. However, we have put forward some suggestions on behalf of our Association.

We have sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Tamil Nadu expressing our views on some of the steps that could taken by the Government. Keeping this in mind, all TASMAC outlets and private bars across Tamil Nadu should be closed on weekends and all public holidays. The Government should also take steps to ensure that liquor shops and bars operate only at specified times on other days. People should be allowed to perform darshan inside temples only till 8 pm.

Cities like Chennai should impose restrictions on people going to the beach on all days. Meat shops must be mandatorily closed on weekends. We have put forward our suggestions in the letter and sincerely hope that the Government will take appropriate action regarding our concerns," reiterated Ravi Shankar.
