Large crowds were seen at flower and fruit shops in Valparai, Coimbatore ahead of Vishu celebrations tomorrow.
Coimbatore: Vishu being the spectacular festival of Malayala New Year, Malayali people living in Valparai flooded the markets today. They bought fruits and flowers to arrange before a mirror, which is a ritual to welcome the New Year ahead.
It is also customary to clean and decorate the house and place fruits, flowers on a plantain leaf along with a lighted lamp in front of a Krishna statue or photo respectively.
On the day of Vishu, people usually get up early, bathe and get dressed and worship Lord Krishna by waking up near the decorated Krishna statue or picture with their eyes closed.
A special "Vishu Kaineetam" is performed in which cash gifts are given to the members of a family to encouraging savings on the new year. This is followed by a grand breakfast.
