TN Human Rights Commission issues notice to the Coimbatore Commissioner, seeks for response within 2 weeks on Gandhipuram hotel attack

This incident of police brutality has created panic in Coimbatore


Coimbatore: Raja Restaurant is operating inside the Central Bus Stand in the Coimbatore Gandhipuram area. Passengers were dining at the restaurant at about 10.15 pm yesterday.

The Police officials chased people away saying Inspector Lata was on patrol. But since the restaurant was functioning with the shutter half-closed, the cops then went inside and barraged those who were eating at the restaurant.

The Sub-Inspector of Police Muthu attacked the workers and the customers and a man and another woman were injured. The footage and the news about this police attack have gone viral on social media.

In this situation, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Davidson Devasirvatham was sent a notice on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Human Rights Commission seeking an explanation about the incident.

The notice said that the explanation should be given in two weeks. Meanwhile, the City Commissioner has set up a committee to inquire into this situation through the Deputy Commissioner.

Sub-inspector Muthu, who carried out the assault, has been transferred to another department. The public has all demanded that Inspector Latha and Sub-Inspector Muthu should be given a suspension order. The incident has caused a stir among the public.
