Coimbatore: A fire broke out at a spinning mill in Karumathampatti near Coimbatore, destroying stocks of yarn threads. The Karumathampatti police are investigating the accident.
Vaiyapuri Appan from Senthil Nagar, Karumathampatti is running the Shanthi Spinning Mills for the last 30 years. He manufacturers yarn. A sudden fire broke out in the spinning mill last night.
The fire spread like wildfire and everything in the mill started burning. Many crores of rupees worth of yarn were burnt and destroyed. Five fire engines from Annur, Avinashi, Peelamedu and Palladam were brought in to suppress the fire and the fire under control after several hours of struggle.
According to the people of the area, they said that Karumathampatti in Somanur area is full of spinning mills and looms. They pointed that frequent fires are seen in this area which causes a lot of material damage.
"The demand for a fire station in the Karumathampatti area has been pending for more than a decade and so far there has been no fire station and the service only comes from other areas making them depending on their service. We demand a fire station should be set up in the Karumathampatti area," the public said.
